Behind every person's relationship with commitment, honour, and loyalty there is almost always a mother. Not always the literal mother, sometimes a grandmother, an aunt, a primary carer, or the conspicuous absence of any of these, but the maternal influence that first modelled what commitment looks like, what honour costs, and whether loyalty is something freely given or something extracted.
